I was very excited to hear about this upcoming play. The story-line is inspiring. Since Wild Swans, the novel, I have not read of another such portrait of the ‘woman’ in Chinese literature. The story is positive and celebratory, a fact so hard to come by in today’s China. It is interesting, that the story comes out of Hong Kong rather than the mainland, where in an era of economic boom stories of corruption, exploitation of women etc abide. The element of sacrifice and love of these women for their own families in China and their adopted families in Hong Kong respectively is what touches and intrigues us.
