The Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures at the University of Richmond invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chinese Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2015. The teaching load is five courses per academic year.
Applicants should have a specialization in Chinese literary and cultural studies, along with demonstrated excellence in teaching Chinese language. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with a Ph.D. in Chinese/Asian studies or a relevant interdisciplinary program in the humanities. We seek a candidate with a strong commitment to high quality undergraduate education and a promising scholarly profile. The Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures has a small but growing major and minor program in Chinese Studies, grounded in the study of the language and fulfilled by a broad array of courses in Chinese literature and cultural studies. We are particularly interested in candidates with research and teaching interests that are interdisciplinary in focus, since the successful candidate will be expected to teach Chinese language courses as well as contribute to the Asia concentration in the International Studies program. The successful candidate must have native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and English and a strong commitment to teaching at all levels of the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum.
