Hong Kong Consciousness and the Umbrella Revolution
The Asia-Pacific Journal has just published Ho-fung Hung’s Three Views of Local Consciousness in Hong Kong, which puts the Umbrella Revolution in philosophical and political perspective. Professor Hung, a sociologist at Johns Hopkins University, provides a critical review of three books on Hong Kong identity discourse and political future by (1) Jiang Shigong 强世功, constitutional scholar at Peking University Law School; (2) Chan Koonchung 陳冠中, author of The Fat Years; and (3) Chin Wan 陳雲, Hong Kong Autonomy Movement intellectual. Other related articles: 《金融时报》观察香港问题的十个认识误区, by Hao Zhidong 郝志东, sociologist at University of Macau; 黎蝸藤:溯本清源——港獨派到底是什麼?
