Full-­‐time Position in Chinese Literature, Civilization, and Language

 
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Rutgers, the State
University of New Jersey, invites applications for an annual appointment
for a full-­‐time,non-­‐ tenure-­‐track position in Chinese beginning Fall
2014. The position will be a one-­‐ year contract, with the possibility of
renewal. Salary and title to be commensurate with qualifications and
experience; the position carries a full package of University benefits.
Teaching duties for the position (of up to 21 credit hours, or 7 classes,
per year) will be a combination of coursesin Chinese literature, language,
culture andcivilization, depending on the qualifications of the
candidateand the needs of the department.

 
Minimum qualifications are an MA in a Chinese humanities field, such as
literature, history, or religion, PhD preferable, and native or
near-­‐native fluency in both Chinese and English. Candidates should show
evidence of commitment to dynamic and effective teaching and demonstrate
preparedness to teach general courses in Chinese literature and
civilization; the ability to teach language courses is also important. The
ideal applicant should have experience teaching Chinese literature and
language courses at the college level and will additionally possess the
skills to coordinate multiple sections of a course and supervise adjunct
instructors as well as to participate in curriculum development for the
major and minor programs in Chinese.
