Re: Fragrant Princess

Having visited Kashgar, and the mosque where the Fragrant Concubine is
purportedly entombed, over a dozen times, I recall local Uighur tour
guides telling us that the "Fragrant" in her title is a euphemism; her
real moniker was Princess Stinky-Poo. In other words, she had BO and may
have disguised this with exotic Silk Road fragrances that made a splash in
the Peking harem.... As with most novel fads and fashions throughout world
history, the spiciest ideas originate in the "ghetto" and leap to the 1%
before spreading through the middle classes via cheap copies and "luxury
goods."

Last days of summer....

The fact that the government thinks an animation about some mythical
figure is going to end its growing problems in the Xinjiang area shows how
far the leadership is from understanding the causes for dissatisfaction
there. The abuses are far too great for a cartoon to be a fix. One wonders
who comes up with these ideas. Is the central leadership really so out of
touch with reality, or does it really believe its own propaganda?

The situation is becoming more and more serious each month. And Beijing’s
remedy is a cartoon?
