Assistant Professor of Chinese
University of Kentucky

 
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position as Assistant
Professor of Chinese to begin August 2014. The successful applicant’s
tenure home will be in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages,
Literatures & Cultures, a dynamic academic unit committed to
interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue among faculty with diverse
geographical interests, theoretical concerns, and methodological
approaches. Applicants must have PhD in hand by July 2014.

 
We seek candidates with the ability to coordinate a 4-year language
program that serves several majors throughout the university. In addition
to administering the Chinese language program, responsibilities of the
position include pursuing an active research program, teaching four
courses per year in the Chinese Program and the Department (including
advanced or classical Chinese), further developing the Chinese language
curriculum, and coordinating extracurricular/outreach activities. Active
participation in the academic life of the Department is also expected.
Research specialization is open, but applicants with a research agenda in
literary or cultural studies are preferred. Experience with language
pedagogy and the ability to teach in the field of Second Language
Acquisition in collaboration with our MA programs in Teaching World
Languages and in Teaching English as a Second Language are also desirable.
