Writer Leung Ping-kwan dies at 63

The Hong Kong poet and writer, Leung Ping-kwan, has died at the age of 63.
Known by his pen name, Ye Si, he'd been battling lung cancer since 2009.
He moved from Guangdong to Hong Kong in 1949 and began writing columns
when he was 20. Ye Si won the Hong Kong Chinese Literature Bi-annual Prize
three times and was featured as writer of the year at last year's Hong
Kong book fair, RTHK reports.

Lingnan University released a statement last night calling Ye Si the most
important Hong Kong writer in the post-war era.

也斯病逝 臨終不忘關心港文學

著名文學家也斯，因患肺癌5日在沙田仁安醫院去世，享年63歲。也斯是香港最重要文化人
之一，擁有多重文化身分，包括詩人、散文家、小說家、文化評論家等，對於
他的辭世，友人及學生無不表示心痛。也斯原名梁秉鈞，曾任教香港大學英文系及比較文
學系，離世前服務嶺南大學中文系，任嶺大比較文學講座教授，同時是嶺大人文學
科研究所所長。

也斯60年代開始創作，作品屢獲殊榮，多次榮獲香港文學雙年獎，包括《布拉格的明信片》
（首屆）、《半途：梁秉鈞詩集》（第四屆），《後殖民食物與愛情》（第
11屆）。他於2006年獲特區政府頒授紫荊榮譽勳章，2010年獲香港藝術家年獎，去年獲香港
書展年度作家。

梁秉鈞家住屯門，於2009年患上肺癌，多年來與病魔搏鬥，聖誕節前後已進進出出醫院，但
慶幸仍可以回家跟家人過節，期間不忘創作，友人葉輝日前跟也斯通電
話，也斯還是表現樂觀，但感慨有很多工作計畫，惜上天沒有給他足夠時間實現。也斯遺願
寄望香港文學能得到香港以至世界的廣泛關注，香港文學多年來處於邊緣地
位，其實本地有很多優秀作家受到忽略，希望香港文學地位將來得到平反。
