Call for Papers for Postgraduate Workshop
Chinese Cinemas in the 21st Century: Production, Consumption, Imagination
16th-18th December 2013 (Mon-Wed)
National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan

Funded by a Leverhulme Trust International Network grant, the research
project “Chinese Cinemas in the 21st Century: Production, Consumption,
Imagination” would like to invite PhD students based in Taiwan, Hong Kong,
and Macau to the final symposium and postgraduate workshop to be held at
National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan from 16th to 18th December, 2013.
This project is led by Dr Song Hwee LIM (University of Exeter), and the
keynote speaker for the symposium is Professor David Der-wei Wang (Harvard
University). More information about the Network can be found at:

We invite PhD students working on any area of film studies, most
preferably Chinese cinemas, to attend the symposium and to present their
dissertation outline or a chapter summary at a day of workshop where the
project’s Network Partners will serve as discussants to provide feedback.
Please send a 250-word abstract, institutional affiliation and nationality
in the first instance to the Network Facilitator Dr Catherine Cummings
atC.Cummings at exeter.ac.uk by 15th October 2013. Selected participants will
be informed by the Network Facilitator by 31st October 2013, and they will
be required to submit a detailed outline or chapter of no more than 15
pages (Times New Roman font size 12, double-spaced) by 22nd November 2013.
Up to 12 selected participants will be granted sponsorships, which include
four nights’ accommodation, travel expenses and meals. Unfortunately we
cannot assist with any matters relating to visa applications.

The symposium and the postgraduate workshop will be conducted in English.

These events are co-organised by Dr. Kien Ket Lim at National Chiao Tung
University, and co-sponsored by the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for
International Scholarly Exchange and the National Science Council, Taiwan,
