Subject: weiguan?
***********************************************************

Dear MCLCers,

I am trying to trace the origins of the term weiguan 围观, often translated
as "surround and watch." I know that Lu Xun wrote about people watching
horrors as entertainment, particularly public executions. But it seems he
didn't use the word 围观 itself. I have been pointed to an article by 笑蜀,
《关注
就是力量 围观改变中国》, published by Nanfang Zhoumo in 2010. Does anyone
know of
earlier references?

Many Thanks,
Anne
