I am looking for films and secondary literature for a Chinese film class
(55% of the students are Film and Rhetoric majors, with an emphasis on
filmmaking, and the other 45% are Asian Studies majors). The course was
last taught two years ago with a focus on Chinese film from the mid-1980s
to the mid-1990s (with a couple of films from the early 2000s). I would
like to include Chinese language film from the 1930s to 1970s, and after
the mid-1990s. I would appreciate it very much if you can suggest some
films (with English subtitles) well received by your students in film
classes or any titles you think might be of academic or popular interest
to your students. Secondary literature and easy-to-use Chinese film
history are also appreciated.
