Reagan was a visionary politician? He backed genozide in Guatemala and
organized wars in Nicaragua and other places, as far as I remember.
Gorbachev was a visionary politician. Reagan was just posturing. I
didn't think it was very important when a few people were harping on Liu
Xiaobo's support for the younger Bush and his Iraq war. Republican
presidents find it easier to stand up to China in some respects, while
shmoozing up to the Politbureau & co. just as much in the larger
picture. Yes, supporting civil rights anywhere is important. And some
American values, I guess.
