I am a bit confused here Edward, as I don't understand in what way does Alison's illustration come across to you as "vandalism"? It is done in comic format, hence the change of language "Whatever, bros". It is not meant to reflect the actual chosen words in Woolf's book To the Light House. This type of the cover is meant to attract the audience who would not be interested necessarily in picking up Woolf's book to read, perhaps not at all. It makes it quite moder, unusual, in my opinion. It may not be the most fitting cover, but it definitely serves a purpose. What that is, can be only answered by those who would pick it up; find the cover attracting enough to want to know the context of the book more.
