Wow! This story has it all... coming soon to a theater (er... live streaming episodic server) near you.

Of course, this could happen to almost anyone. When B. J. Kirkpatrick - conscientious, careful, cautious - went to Canberra for a couple of years in the late 1970s, the tenant in her little terrace house in the Portobello Road had to be evicted, the house thoroughly cleaned and the needles carefully collected.

I am interested, however, in academics (philosophers, psychologists, &c.) whose expertise doesn't seem to impinge on their everyday life. Other professionals too (social workers?). And we've all heard of good electricians whose own houses would not pass Health and Safety.

If your research area is "Domestic industry in Upper Brabant in the second half of the Middle Ages", it's not likely to affect your everyday life. But if you've written a book called "Virginia Woolf and the Fictions of Psychoanalysis" . . .

Stuart

Just when I thought "This couldn't get any more bizarre", Wendy Brown and Judith Butler come into the story...

A sorry tale of possible interest to some Woolfians...
