Subject: [Vwoolf] Woolf and the sense of smell

A colleague of mine at Queen Mary (London, UK) has asked me to ask if anyone on the list knows a source for the following:
"I am looking to identify the source of an anecdote by Woolf in which she recounts delightedly approaching a pile of books, handling them, opening their pages, and savouring their smell. As I remember it, she gets out of bed to do this, but that may be a false memory. If any of the list members can provide a source for this, I would be extremely grateful."

This is from Catherine Maxwell, who is researching perfume and the sense of smell.

Any information appreciated. Do reply to me off-list if you prefer. m.barrett at qmul.ac.uk
