This list has been very quiet recently, so here’s something way off topic.

MEMO TO THE DEAN OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE, EARLY 1960s

“Report on Mr. M (Candidate for appointment as clerk) from Mr. F, War Service Homes Commission [Australia]

“Mr. F. telephoned ... He says that in over twenty years as head of this particular section he has only known one other person who is more reliable than Mr. M.  He is a very good worker, extremely honest, quite thorough and in fact a very sincere and capable young man ... he thinks we would be extremely fortunate to be able to obtain his services.

“The only thing which ... could be made against his application is that he thought that he is not a good writer.  In regard to the beard he agrees it would be quite inappropriate for Mr. M to work in this faculty unless he were cleanshaven  and Mr. F says it was his intention to point out to Mr. M the necessity of removing the beard in the event of his being appointed. ...”
