*1) USDA Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics Fields Program **(WAMS)**:* The US Department of Agriculture
has released an RFA for its WAMS program (
http://nifa.usda.gov/funding/rfas/wams.html). From the executive summary:
NIFA requests applications for the Fiscal Year 2012 Women and Minorities in
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fields Program (WAMS) to
support research and extension activities that increase the number of women
and underrepresented minorities from rural areas who will pursue and
complete a postsecondary degree in science, technology, engineering or
mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
Specifically, the purpose of the WAMS grant program is to support research
and extension projects that provide STEM knowledge, skills and competencies
to women and underrepresented minorities from rural areas with successful
placement: (a) in the workforce in STEM fields, or (b) as innovators and
entrepreneurs adding value to the STEM fields in areas that have relevancy
3 to the USDA Secretary’s priorities of Sustainable Energy; Climate Change;
Food Safety; Nutrition and Childhood Obesity; and Global Food Security.
Approximately $350,000 will be available to fund the WAMS program for FY
2012. Proposals are due April 12.

2) Spencer Foundation:* The Spencer Foundation's areas of funding interest
include "Teaching, Learning, and Instructional Resources" (
http://www.spencer.org/content.cfm/teaching-learning-and-instructional-resources).
>From their website:
Concerned with advancing the learning and development of children and
adults, Spencer is interested in studies that lead to better understanding
and improvements in the intellectual, material, and organizational
resources that contribute to successful teaching and learning. A key aim of
research in this initiative is to support investigations of questions that
are grounded directly in teaching practice as well as in research about
important aspects of teaching and learning processes that hold promise for
enriching opportunities to learn and for guiding informed policymaking.
Proposals for the next round of Small Grants (<$40,000) are due July 1.
Preliminary proposals for larger grants are accepted continuously.
