In addition to the recently announced power outage of December 9th, the University Energy Savings Project will complete a large scale conversion of the building-wide system controls.

This conversion is very complex and replaces the existing and partly outdated Siemens system with Delta, the brand of controls broadly adopted campus-wide.

This controls conversion will require a shutdown of each major system as control wiring is moved from existing panels to new panels on a point-by-point basis.

Discussions are underway to define outage durations, to bundle outages, to combine project outages with planned maintenance outages, and other strategies to lessen disruption to occupants.

One tentative date under close study for some of these outages is the 3-day weekend of January 18,19, and 20 (Martin Luther King Holiday is Jan 20th).

Other dates, including the planned maintenance outage currently scheduled for January 8th , are also being considered with a focus on dates in January and February.

The University Energy Savings Project Team reports that the system controls conversion is the last major work package planned for PRB.

The Department offers this message to give lab groups advance planning tools even as project details and dates are not yet fully developed.

The Department encourages lab groups to study their work plans for December thru March with special emphasis on January and February and communicate items that need to be included in outage planning efforts.

Additional messaging will follow in the coming weeks as plans evolve.
