Retirement of physics faculty

To all,

As summer is finally here and most of us are in preparation mode for Autumn semester or perhaps recovery mode from Spring, I would like to announce the retirement of three of our esteemed faculty.

Gordon Aubrecht has retired after more than 40 years at OSU having spent most of that time teaching at the Marion campus.  Gordon has always been active at the Columbus Campus as well as an integral part of our Physics Education Research Group and as a member of University Senate.  He has been an active member of the Ohio Section of the APS and AAPT as well.

Bruce Patton has retired after nearly 35 years at Ohio State.  Bruce is a Condensed Matter Theorist who has most recently been involved in Physics Education Research providing teacher training for science teachers through a US Department of Education Grant.

Arthur Epstein will retire effective the end of June after more than 28 years of service at OSU.  Art has had a very distinguished and productive career in Physics and Chemistry.  Art was honored as a Distinguished University Professor and Distinguished University Lecturer.  He provided leadership for the Center for Materials Research and provided extensive service to the department and university.

Although these three have officially retired, none of them will fade into the sunset.  Both Gordon and Bruce will continue with their grants following their required hiatus and Art will continue his research and editorial duties as an Emeritus Professor.

We celebrated Gordon's retirement on May 28.  We will notify you as plans develop for receptions for Bruce and Art in the Autumn when most of our faculty have returned to campus.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking these three faculty members for many years of service to the department and university.
