The upgrade of the Windows file server appears that the upgrade has gone well.

PCF will continue to test the new server, but all indications are that everything is functioning correctly.

It is best that you restart your computer to reflect the changes and to solve most minor problems.

Please let me know if you have any difficulties and I'll work to remedy them just as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Matt

Subject: Windows File Server Outage

Physics -All,

This Saturday (2/23) from roughly 8:00 AM until Noon the Windows file server PHYPCS will be offline. This is part of a planned upgrade to increase the capacity and performance of the system.

During this time user profiles, group shares, and print queues will be offline.

To further elaborate, user profiles (for most of our Windows users) consist of the contents of your "U:\" drive and additionally the "Desktop" and "My Documents" folders. Group shares are folders that are located on the file server and shared my more than one person. Group shares are typically mapped to a drive letter ("x:\" drive) or accessed by typing in something like \\phypcs\sharename<file:///\\phypcs\sharename>. Print queues are special network shares that we use to print to networked printers.

If you are unsure of how you'd be affected by this outage or if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

Sincerely,
Matthew C. Barber
