Please join us on Thursday, February 21st at 11:30am in 4138 PRB for a "Special Colloquium" presented by Ilya Gruzberg from the University of Chicago.
There will be a light reception prior to the seminar at 11:15am just outside of 4138 PRB.
"Mysteries of the quantum Hall staircase"
After more than 30 years since its discovery, the quantum Hall effect continues to fascinate scientists and stimulate vigorous research. While quantization of Hall conductivity in the integer quantum Hall effect is rather well understood, the problem of the transitions between plateau with different values of the Hall conductivity, and the associated critical behavior, remains a largely unsolved mystery. In this talk I will describe the problem, place it in the context of modern experimental and theoretical developments, and present our recent progress in its solution.
Thank you,
Trisch
