Windows remote desktop access

The Office of the CIO's security group has blocked access to everyone connecting to Windows remote desktop on-campus from off-campus. This means that if you use the Remote Desktop Connection program to connect to your Windows machine at your desk from off-campus, you will not be able to do so directly. The simple workaround is to use the Physics VPN or the OSU VPN service. Connect to the VPN first, then you'll be able to use the remote desktop as you would normally.
This block was set in response to a patch Microsoft released yesterday that fixed a bug in the remote desktop protocol. There are no exploits that take advantage of this bug at this time, but such exploits typically come quickly after a patch is published. If you have a Windows machine, you should be sure to apply the patches via the Windows Updates control panel as soon as possible to ensure that your machine does not remain vulnerable to the exploits that will come.
