Dear Colleagues,

Many of you have likely already heard that the new Center for Quantum Information Science and Engineering at OSU (CQISE, quantum.osu.edu) will be hosting a center launch event tomorrow from 1-5pm in the PRB Atrium and Smith Seminar Room, and for those who haven’t – now you have! 😉 I am writing to you as the Physics community because interest in this event has exceed expectations by a factor of 2-3, so something that started off at a modest scale has grown to over 90 participants, roughly 2/3 from within OSU and 1/3 from regional and strategic partners such as AFRL, AFIT, NASA, CQE, IBM, JPMC, CISCO and Lakeshore Cryotronics.

Since there will be a lot of people in the building, I wanted to give everyone a heads up as to what is happening and why the atrium will be so crowded. I also want to emphasize that this is a public event, and all who have an interest in QISE are welcome. The event will include presentations from 1-3pm (livestreamed at https://go.osu.edu/cqiselaunch) and a poster session and Quantum Casino from 3-5pm.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the hard work of our Physics Department staff who have played a major role in bringing this event together. Popularity is a good problem to have, but there is no way that the CQISE could have adjusted to this boom in attendance without their help. Your professionalism in dealing with unexpected events is very much appreciated!

Best wishes,
Zeke
