Please see below about recent EPIC chart closures – reason for getting rid of closing the chart with two steps (requiring password sign of) and the legal compliance question.
Denise please send this information to private docs.
Thanks.

Subject: Epic CHANGE – password requirement for closing encounters
If you hadn’t already noticed, as of yesterday (2/8/18), the requirement to enter your password to close face-to-face encounters in Epic (office visits, nurse only visits, therapy visits, etc.) has been removed.

A question asked by one of our ENT physicians led to conversations with legal, compliance, and HIM which ultimately determined that this requirement did not provide additional value on top of the audit trail already stored in the Epic database. With the hundreds of thousands of these encounters occurring annually, the Epic team is thrilled to eliminate many millions of keystrokes and clicks from your work each year. Enjoy!
