[OACRAO] Best Practice at Commencement

    The last day of classes (final exams) for us is the Wednesday prior to commencement on Saturday. We require all senior grades are due by 9am on Thursday morning and ALL grades are due by that Friday at 5pm. We do not list Latin Honors in the program, but do announce the appropriate honor when their names are called. This is often changed right up to the ceremony, depending on assignments and the faculty member changing grades. Students can pick up diplomas beginning the week after commencement and degrees are officially conferred in our system that Monday after commencement.

To all that do not hand out live diplomas, how do you calculate latin honors for students at the ceremony? Our final grades for all students are not due until Monday, May 8 at 11:59pm. Our commencement is always held the Saturday prior. We have a few students that are really upset that they won't receive Magna Cum Laude because their GPA we base latin honors on is currently Cum Laude.

How do you handle the students who are on the gpa cusp for latin honors at the ceremony? We've explained that their transcript and diploma will have the final latin honors listed but they want the stole for pictures.
