[OACRAO] Unofficial Withdrawals

Hi, Sue. First, if it is a withdrawal, it is an official withdrawal. Our office doesn't do anything unofficial (well, mostly).

Students who don't return are marked as voluntary withdrawal and all courses are dropped. This happens within the first two weeks of a term, before the late-drop period expires. Students may incur fees if they don't communicate with us.

During the term:
Admin WD for academic reasons: http://catalog.wlu.edu/content.php?catoid=22&navoid=1946#Required_Admin
Admin WD for non-academic reasons: http://catalog.wlu.edu/content.php?catoid=22&navoid=1947#Required_Admin_With_Non

The effective date determines whether we assign W, WP, or WF grades and also what fees might be returned according to the schedule at http://catalog.wlu.edu/content.php?catoid=22&navoid=1940#refunds .

I hope that helps.

Scott

Subject: [OACRAO] Unofficial Withdrawals

Colleagues,

Our institution is having some discussion regarding our policy about unofficial withdrawals.

In cases where the college becomes aware that a student is no longer attending and you need to administratively withdraw a student for non-attendance, do any of your institutions issue an non-punitive grade if it is still before the last day to withdraw? Or do you instead issue a WF, UW or some other equivalent of a failing grade?

Thank you.
