MES Forum members, you may be starting to plant seeds in your garden, or picturing yourself at the farmers market now that we’ve had a taste of Spring. Our latest Seeds of Middle Eastern Culture working session on February 28th<https://mesc.osu.edu/events/foodways-working-session-2> brought out the need for recipes and other resources to help translate vegetables and herbs into food, and at the same time across cultures. This “Flavor Profiles<https://mailchi.mp/2dcc40ec3cf1/middle-east-studies-center-update-oct-5842291>” resource links specific crops with foundational flavors in Middle Eastern cooking. If you are looking for recipes, history, and stories to engage people with Middle Eastern foodways, we have curated a rich array of such resources highlighting West Asian cultures such as the following:

  *   mesc.osu.edu/cucumber<https://mesc.osu.edu/cucumber>
  *   mesc.osu.edu/lemon<https://mesc.osu.edu/lemon>
  *   mesc.osu.edu/thyme<https://mesc.osu.edu/thyme>
You will find more resources at go.osu.edu/Mideast-food<https://go.osu.edu/Mideast-food> as well. I’m also really excited about this new book:

Sanchez-Summerer, K., & Sharkey, H. J. (Eds.). (2025). Commensality and Cultural Heritage: Bringing the Foodways of the Middle East and Its Diasporas to the Table. University of Groningen Press. https://doi.org/10.21827/6883292eb0d00
Pdf of the book: https://pure.rug.nl/ws/portalfiles/portal/1400369195/Commensality_and_Cultural_Heritage.pdf

Enjoy! And have a great Spring Break.

Best wishes,

Melinda
