Just as a kind of side line to the problematics of the translator's
invisibility I would like to mention that the CEATL (European Council of
Literary Translators Associations) has started some time ago a book cover
collection to show the good examples of publishers who do pay their
respects to the translator's work. It might be interesting to see for
everybody: http://www.ceatl.eu/actions/book-cover-collection.

Slowly, more (bolder) translators now start asking their publishers to put
their name on the cover, next to the author's name. Which is something the
CEATL explicitly strives for. The last of their Six Commandments is:

6. Translator’s name
As author of the translation, the translator shall be named wherever the
original author is named.
