The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the State
University of New York College at New Paltz invites applications for
tenure-track positions in Chinese and in Japanese.  For each position, the
area of specialization is open, and the new faculty will be central to the
growing Asian Studies Program.

SUNY New Paltz is a highly-selective public college of about 7,800
students, offering a variety of undergraduate as well as some graduate
degree programs, and is the only comprehensive college within SUNY to
offer a BA major in Asian Studies. The campus regularly hosts the New York
Conference on Asian Studies.  New Paltz is located in a vibrant, historic
area 80 miles north of New York City in the scenic Hudson Valley, with
easy access to Manhattan and to nearby cultural and recreational amenities.

The two positions are as follows:

1.  Assistant Professor in Chinese

The Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures at the State
University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chinese to begin Fall 2013. Duties
include teaching lower-division undergraduate courses in Chinese language,
upper division courses in Chinese literature and culture in translation,
service to the department, the Asian Studies Program, and to the College.
Teaching load is 3/3.A complete Ph.D. is required; exceptional ABD
candidates with firm completion dates may be considered. This position is
for a specialist in Chinese literature or culture of any period. Evidence
of post-secondary teaching experience and proficiency with instructional
technology are required. Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and
English are required. Candidates who bring diverse cultural experience and
who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our
diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply.
