Call for applications
M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Chinese Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS) of The Chinese University of Hong
Kong invites applications for its M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in Chinese
Studies for 2013-2014. We welcome strong applicants with specialized
research plans in a variety of disciplines, especially in Chinese
Religion, History or Cultural Studies.

 
The CEAS provides a platform for interdisciplinary studies of China
conducted in English at the Chinese University.  In addition to the
M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes, the CEAS also hosts B.A. and M.A. programmes
in Chinese Studies.

 
Successful applicants will be supported by a monthly studentship of
approximately U.S.$1,200 after tuition. Funding for research activities is
also available.

 
Admission exercise for 2013-14 starts on 1 September 2012 and the closing
date for applications is 31 January 2013. Applicants are highly encouraged
to submit the applications by the fellowship* deadline on 1 December 2012.

* Applicants for the Ph.D. programme should also take advantage of the
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme of 2013-14.  Launched by the Research
Grants Council of Hong Kong, the Fellowship supports outstanding students
from other places in the world to come to Hong Kong to pursue Ph.D.
studies. The Fellowship will provide an annual stipend of approximately
US$30,000 and a conference and research-related travel allowance of
approximately US $1,300 per year.  Please note the application deadline
for the Hong Kong Fellowship Scheme is December 1, 2012.  For details,
