Assistant Professor of Chinese
University of South Florida
 

The Department of World Languages at the University of South Florida is
seeking candidates for an appointment to a nine month tenure track
position in modern Chinese Literature and Media Studies at the rank of
Assistant Professor, effective August 7, 2013. Salary negotiable.
 

Responsibilities: Teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses on
modern Chinese literature, film, and media studies in translation as well
as Chinese language courses and advanced undergraduate courses on
literature, film and media studies in Chinese. Conduct, present, and
publishresearch and engage in other professional activities. The
successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in the expansion of a
rapidly growing Chinese program by further developing the literature, film
and media studies components for an undergraduate Chinese major.
Participate in governance at department, college, and university level.
 

Qualifications:Minimum‹Candidates must have native or near native speaker
proficiency in Chinese and an excellent command of written and spoken
English. The successful candidate must have the ability to teach modern
Chinese language, literature, and film courses in Chinese and English.
Candidates must have PHD in hand by August 7, 2013 in one or more of the
following areas: Modern Chinese literature, Chinese film, Chinese Media
Studies, Chinese Performance Studies, or Chinese Cultural Studies. The
successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of excellence in
teaching and evidence of scholarly productivity.

Preferred‹ Preference will be given to candidates who have experience
teaching Chinese language to non-native speakers using performance- or
communicative-based pedagogies.
