61st Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA)

The Diether H. Haenicke Institute for Global Education at Western Michigan
University is pleased to host the 61st Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs
(MCAA) from September 21-23, 2012 at the Fetzer Center on the campus of
WMU in Kalamazoo, Michigan. A regional conference of the Association of
Asian Studies (AAS), MCAA has provided a forum for scholars and teachers
of Asian Studies in the Midwest to gather and exchange knowledge about the
history and cultures of Asia for over a half-century. This year the
conference is being held in conjunction with the Second Himalayan Studies
Conference organized by the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies
(ANHS). The conference will feature panels and roundtables at which
faculty and graduate students present and discuss new research and
pedagogical tools.

Call for Papers

The theme for the 2012 conference is ³Global Education.² Proposals for
panels and individual papers from all academic disciplines, on any topic
involving Asia, are currently being accepted. Submission of panels and
individual papers that address the full range of global and international
education across the span of Asia are especially encouraged. Panels and
individual papers that cross boundaries, be it in regional, temporal,
linguistic, disciplinary or other terms, are also particularly welcome, as
are graduate student panels and papers.

The submission deadline for proposals is Friday, May 04, 2012. Presenters
must be members of MCAA (membership dues are included in the registration
fee) and must pre-register by Friday, August 31, 2012 to attend and
present. Please note that MCAA does not provide funds for travel. Visit
the Grants and Fellowships page on the AAS website for assistance options.
All proposals must be submitted online. Please visit the following link to
