A further correction is due here:

Bill may have confused BUST or USTB with CUST (The Chinese University of
Science and Technology).

The CUST 中国科技大学 was initially founded in the western suburbs of
Beijing in
the year of 1958. Its faculty then consisted largely of the research staff
of various disciplines at the CAS (Chinese Academy of Science). As such,
in its early days, it was managed and supervised by the CAS, and has even
since continued to enjoyed the CAS patronage. Indeed, Professor Fang Lizhi
initially served as a lecturer at the newly founded CUST in western
Beijing in 1958, two years after his graduation from Peking University. He
served there until 1969 when the whole CUST was relocated to Hefei, the
provincial capital of Anhui province. He was later was promoted to serve
as its vice chancellor of CUST in Hefei until his dismissal in the early
spring of 1987 for his outspoken criticism of the Party policies.

BUST (北京科技大学) was only formed and named so in the year of 1988 when a
group of five colleges in Beijing were combined re-organized around the
academic strength of a metallurgy Institute known then as the Beijing
Steel & Iron Institute (北京钢铁学院).

I am not sure what to make of what Bill referred to as USTB (University of
Science and Technology in Beijing). If he has 北京理工大学 in mind, then its
English name should really be "Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT)"
which is generally considered more prestigious than BUST as it traces its
origins to the CCP's early days of starting the natural science education
in Yan'an in the 1940s and has very early on received much more PRC state
funding in science than BUST.....

My two pennies.
