Hello,

Over the past few weeks there has been a person on the campus attempting to scam money out of students and staff.

The scenarios go something like this:

The suspect will approach the victim and will appear very distraught.  He normally claims he is a student and needs some cash to get to Columbus because of some type of emergency. Normally it is because his wife or child was transported by Medflight to one of the Columbus hospitals and he needs money for gas to get to the hospital to be with them.  He may even offer to show his I.D. or give a phone number.  The victims so far have not asked for his I.D. and have given money to the person because he is so convincing.

To date this person has scammed two staff members and one student.

The suspect is a white male, about 5'8", 165 pounds, 30 to 35 years of age, balding and very close haircut and had about a two day growth of facial hair.  He wore a red hoodie, blue jeans, dark green coat, white tennis shoes and had a large backpack.  I do have video of this person.

Remember, NEVER give money to any person you do not personally know, even if they give you a hard luck story.  There are several options for a person if they need assistance.  Direct them to one of the counselors or staff members or call me.  It the person does need assistance I an make sure it is provided.  If they are attempting to scam someone, I will take care of that issue also.
