Subject: Latinx students at the University of Michigan
Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to alert you to events that are happening on the University of Michigan's campus.
A Latinx student group, La Casa, has been pressuring the university to respond to the needs of Latinx students, faculty and staff since last Fall, when they were subjected to hate speech<http://www.latinorebels.com/2017/09/04/university-of-michigan-latinx-students-greeted-with-fck-latinos-and-maga-graffiti/> at the start of the term.
On Monday they submitted a list of demands to University Administration. They will be sharing these demands with the Regents at their next meeting in a few weeks time. You can read a story about these efforts here<https://www.michigandaily.com/section/campus-life/latino-students-send-demands-representation-u-administrators>.
If you'd like to see a copy of their demands (which are beautifully cogent) just shoot me an email and I can share the document with you.
I am deeply inspired by the commitment, intelligence, and perseverance of these students, they are actively shaping their future against great odds...
