A local fire marshal recently cited this rule for an MRI scan room door:
"Per NFPA 101 (2015) edition, 7. 2.1.4.5.1 (1) the opening forces for
interior side-hinged or pivoted swinging door leaves without closures shall
not exceed 5lbf"
He is requiring the facility to resolve the "violation." I can tell him
plenty of reasons this rule should not apply, but they've tried that. He's
just enforcing the rule.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Do you know of an exemption in the fire
protection association's Life Safety code?
Thanks in advance!
Adam
