I only knew Chuck through his papers which I read voraciously in my early career.
Truly a giant contributor to medicine and medical physics. His work I am sure has helped improve the health and lives of many.
May he Rest in Peace

Hello list,
If you have not already heard, Chuck Mistretta passed away last week. There is a memories page, please leave a note if you knew Chuck. He will have funeral services this Thursday in Madison (details on the link in message below). Chuck was a great human being, a great innovator, and will be missed by all of us who knew him.
"As a professor of medical physics and radiology, Chuck pioneered countless innovations in medical imaging. Perhaps most notably, he invented and worked with Andrew Crummy, MD and others to develop the first commercial prototype of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in 1981. In collaboration with Frank Korosec, PhD, Tom Grist, MD, and others Chuck invented other seminal development including time resolved MR angiography (TRICKS) among others such as VIPR (Vastly undersampled Isotropic PRojection imaging), and HYPR (HighlY constrained reconstruction back PRojection).
Committed to supporting future generations of imaging scientists, Chuck mentored 33 PhD students and 23 postdoctoral fellows. When asked what advice he gives his students, he said “Pick a career that makes a difference in the world and hopefully helps people. When you get old some day and start becoming aware of your mortality, it really helps to look back and say 'I did my best and I helped make the world a little better place'.”"
