[Intl_DxMedPhys] How far can an MRI Eq. Rm. be?

Hi Nima,

We have one site like this where the tech room and scanner room are separated by a control room (about 3m separation). We were attempting to fit a second system into an existing department and it was the only practicable configuration. It's a Siemens 1.5T scanner.

As mentioned previously, the biggest issue after installation was continuous acoustic noise in the control room due to the fans. Follow-up work was required after installation to try and attenuate the noise from the panels in the control room.

I'm sure there's a solution here that can get the tech room adjacent to the scanner room, even with the unusual requirement of access from multiple ORs. If not, I would definitely get confirmation in advance from scanner vendors that they can accommodate this, I'm sure they will have their own proximity requirements. There may be other third party applications that require connections between the rooms (e.g. fMRI projector, MR elastography acoustic drivers) that would be complicated or ruled out by this kind of set-up.

I have never seen an equipment room placed so far from a Zone 4 room. Will this even work? I mean, cables thru the ceiling?? Will vendors accept this?
