Dear Colleagues:
As most of you know, with many modern CT scanners (especially for abdomen protocols), it is difficult to do CT dosimetry in axial mode (even though one can try doing in service mode, etc…) and is not pragmatic to perform dosimetry for a medical physicist working in a remote location where access to service modes are not possible, etc…
In a way, measuring CT dose same as the clinical scan (helical) is a better way to compare the dose display, etc. All these are discussed in the editorial published this week in Radiology.
We know that widespread adoption of helical measurement methodology will depend not only on scientific validation and professional consensus but also on integration into accreditation programs (currently working on adoption) and regulatory agencies.
