Let me add a bit more information:
Technically, the minimum academic credential is an MA however all current and past physicists in our group have held PhDs. We are a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, we support research across the organization and we deliver the physics instruction for radiology residents and fellows. As well as competence in the practice of Medical Physics, a very strong emphasis will be placed on the prospective candidate's record of scholarship and academic achievement. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in collaborative or independent research projects and develop a strong peer network within the academic radiology space.
While it is not part of the employment agreement, the successful, suitably qualified candidate will be considered for a Harvard academic appointment.
Our group currently consists of 3 physicists and a physics assistant. We provide imaging physics support to all clinical departments, hospital wide and we cover several affiliated hospitals and community clinics in the great Boston area. The Beth Israel Lahey Health network of hospitals is building new facilities in the Boston area and has just launched a major new joint venture with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. We are growing and the future is bright.
Physicists in the group cover multiple modalities and although we encourage candidates regardless of specialty, our current preference is for someone with a CT focus. Although the job description states that an ABR certificate is a required qualification, we do encourage residents who expect to graduate this summer to apply and we will figure that out.
It would be impossible to say in a few words how great a place Boston is to live and work. The BIDMC is situated in the Longwood Medical area, just two blocks from the vibrant Fenway neighborhood (and Fenway Park, Go Sox!) and adjacent to many fabulous residential neighborhoods with top-notch schools. Longwood is very central and very connected by public transit - just a few miles to MGH, MIT, Harvard main campus, the MFA, and downtown Boston.
