Our team is seeking clarification on the required physics evaluations for C-arms with 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) capabilities in South Carolina, as outlined under DHEC Regulation 61-64.
We represent a client that manufactures these devices, and they have been informed by the state that equipment evaluation reports must include 3D dose data. However, we are finding limited specific guidance in the regulations regarding CBCT-specific testing protocols, particularly for dosimetry requirements.
Could you share your insights or experiences with the following?
1. What specific tests are you performing for 3D C-arm CBCT systems during annual physics evaluations?
2. Are you required to provide 3D dose data in your evaluation reports, and if so, what methods or standards (e.g., AAPM TG 238, manufacturer protocols) are you using?
3. Have you encountered any direct communication from the state regarding CBCT evaluation requirements?
Your input would help ensure compliance and align with best practices.
Thank you for your time and expertise!
Travis C. Greene
