Even an extremely small amount of radiation can affect an electronic
device. So you can never say never, even if it is unlikely. There was an
unintentional descent of a Quantas airplane (Flight 72) due to a Cosmic ray
changing one bit in the flight computer (bit flip).
When I worked in a Nuclear Power Plant, all of our instrumentation and
computers was in triplicate, and we needed two out of three for any
result. There is extensive literature on why 2 out of 3 is used.
Even in low radiation areas, in hospitals, I have seen damage to pixels in
cameras etc due to radiation. I have seen unintended functioning of an R/F
room, when the RF from arc welding nearby affected the units computer, with
a patient on the table.
