Ask the manufacturer provide the scatter dose diagram of the model in question. If this unit has a cbct mode, best to find out if an upgrade to cbct will be coming up for the facility. Use the protocol parameters that the facility will be using most. Endodontic offices use different imaging protocols that say oral suregery and dental implant practices do. If you dont have that info use the parameters for the highest exposure protocol frombthe manufacturer's scsttered dose info document.
Get an average weekly workload for panoramic and cbct and increase it be 15-20%. Then calculate exposures based on the drawing that reflects the actual installation and occupancies behind the barriers in question. Include above and below the alcove or room of the unit
Followup with a survey using a head size phantom after installation and modify your recommendations to the facility if your measurements adjusted for workload, occupancy etc show inadequate shielding was used. Or there is need for shielding or additional shielding.
We are holding a session on 2D and 3D dental imaging QC at the spring clinical meeting, in Henderson NV.
Please add things i have missed or correct me if I have misspoken on the above suggestion.
