Marlene,
The 790 field is a legitimate MARC field and you can use it if you wish
790  Local Added Entry–Personal Name

I am sure you can teach your computer to eliminate 7xx fields that have
sub-field $5[Other library code] and keep those 7xx fields that have
sub-field $5[Your library code]

As far as I know our copy catalogers at OSU are instructed to remove those
fields manually before exporting if they do not apply to our records.

We are using 59x fields for local notes and 79x fields local added entries.
