[Heb-NACO] Please Submit Your Questions for the OCLC Update

Thanks for trying this out. This is what I want to eliminate--a local field in the master record that I have to worry about. Some other fields I can direct my computer not to accept, such as 029. But obviously I can't get rid of 7xx because the computer can't distinguish between one I want to keep and one that is local . Unless the presence of $5 would tell it to delete the field. Then what if I put in a $5 for my local notes? ??

Here is an example: #16814707. Goodwin. Moses and Aaron. Has $5 DLC in the 710 field. If you export it to your local system what shows up in 710? I can’t do this experiment because it will go into the error file. Can you do the experiment for me?
Thanks,
MRS

For rare items only at Penn, we add a $5 PAU at the end of the 7xx field (see bibformats: $5=the institution to which the field applies). I also wish LC would do the same.

In RDA you can put a former owner in 561 field, but when you trace it in 700 field, it is no longer local information. Could there be a local 700 field (or local indicator) so that the name of the former owner only comes up in the local system and not in OCLC generally?

The opposite side of the coin is that many LC records have a 700 for the copy in LC that I have to delete in my record when I export it.
