At one time we had free access to Rav Milim simply by googling it and then it suddenly stopped and I was told we would have to subscribe for over one thousand dollars per year which my university is not willing to do. Where do you find a free online version now?

actually there is a list of Hebraica dictionaries and lesical aids in the RDA Hebraica Cataloging beginning on page 74. Rav-Milim (and its free online version are given there along with Alkalay and E.S.

My understanding is that we prefer ES and Alkalay and if that fails (which probably indicates new terminology or slang or some word the author invented), anything we can find that shows which nekudot to Romanize). Is there a "pecking order" of non-preferred sources? When desperate, I suggest trying online sources for anything , since if it isn't in the ES/Alkalay we are desperate.

It was agreed that ES is our Bible. I would take Milon Ariel only as a tie breaker or as another source of information.
Milon Ariel is authoritative as other dictionaries and it includes some Slang and Non-Hebrew words that the traditional dictionaries do not include.
Again I am for keeping ES and Alkalay where they are but also check, if needed Ariel and other reputable dictionaries.
