Hi Judith,

I agree with Neil's directions (the 2nd example under Ibn Ezra is an AACR2 heading). I encourage you to look at the discussion on commentary's in RDA and accompanying LCPS's. In this case it appears that Kohelet is presented as a new edition of the original work and is accompanied by 2 commentaries (1 named and 1 unnamed)

RDA 27.1.6 tells us:

If the work is presented simply as an edition of the previously existing work, treat it as an expression of that work. Use the authorized access point representing the previously existing work. If it is considered important to identify the particular expression, construct an authorized access point representing the expression as instructed at 6.27.3 . In this case Kohelet is the "previously exisiting work" and in the MARC environment will go in the 130 field. The RDA instructions for setting up sacred works such as the Bible can be found RDA 6.23.2.5 and 6.23.9.2.

You have the option of adding access points for the commentaries. The first commentary is a named work so you cou make a 700 name/title access point for that work. The 2nd commentary is unnamed so you can make an authorized access point for M.S. Goodman and to clarify his role, add a relationship designator for writer of added commentary.

The Tanakh and its individual books are classed in the range BS715-BS1675.6

Best, Heidi

Hi,

I guess you could use:
130 0 Bible $p Ecclesiastes.
630 0 Bible $p Ecclesiastes. $v Commentaries.

These two are also established:

Ibn Ezra, Abraham ben Meïr, ǂd 1092-1167. ǂt Perush ʻal Neviʼim u-Khetuvim
Ibn Ezra, Abraham ben Meïr, ǂd 1092-1167. ǂt Perush Ibn ʻEzra ʻal Shir ha-shirim. ǂl English & Hebrew

(The one for Kohelet is not established yet).

I am cataloging the book Sefer Kohelet 'im perush Ibn 'Ezra. It has explanations by M.S. Goodman. I do not want to put either Goodman or Ibn 'Ezra in the 100 field; I will but them in 700 fields. Should I make a 130 field and should it read :
Kohelet ('Im perush Ibn 'Ezra)? Is this a correct uniform (preferred) title? Can one say "' Im perush..." in brackets?
And, as a rule, should the Cutter in a book that begins with Sefer be taken from the second word in the title, which is the first word of the uniform title, when there is a uniform title and no author main entry?
Alternatively, can this book be cataloged simply with a 245 00? (without a uniform title)? And if so, would the Cutter be taken from the first word (Sefer) or from the second word (Kohelet) in the 245 field?
