[Heb-NACO] Hebrew dates in RDA records

Hello all,

Ready or not, RDA is coming! We at UCLA are looking at the BIBCO webinars in preparation for doing RDA BIBCO records. In the first webinar (I believe) there was a discussion of transcribing dates as they appear on the piece. So, for example, if you have a roman numeral for a date on your piece you would transcribe it as such, with the option of adding the C.E. date in parenthesis:

264 $c MMXIII [2013]

What do we do with dates that only appear in Hebrew script on the piece? Do we transcribe it as we see it in the Hebrew characters with the Romanized form in a parallel field? We also can’t use “i.e.” anymore and must use “that is.” For example:

264 $cתשע"ג [that is 2012 or 2013]
264 $c t. sh. ‘a. g. [that is 2012 or 2013]

I saw that there is even an RDA rule for chronograms (2.8.6.4) giving the optional addition to write it all out then give the C.E. date in square brackets.

264 $c Chronogram [that is 2012 or 2013]

Please let me know whether I’m on the right track and whether AJL/PCC/LC will be giving additional guidance for RDA Hebraica records.
