To anyone who is pursuing a minor (or would like to in the future):
The university recently changed their guidelines for minors across campus. The attachment provides the new guidelines for minor programs and the newer rules are highlighted in yellow.
Most minors already adhere to these rules, so most of you will not have to worry about this. However, one rule that I want to bring to your attention is that minors are allowed to overlap with majors now. Before, this was not allowed at all. Now, minors only need to have 12 distinct hours, which means (for most minors) you may be able to overlap up to three credit hours with your major. For example, Geography and Atmospheric Sciences majors can now double count one of their methods courses with a GIS minor, so I GIS minor is now only four additional courses, not five.
Let me know if you need clarification or have other questions about how this new rule can apply to you.
