I write to let you know about a website that I launched this Spring, The Vault of Culture<https://www.vaultofculture.com/>, that I've been calling "an edited, semi-scholarly space devoted to publishing a wide range of approaches to a variety of cultural objects, from comics to film to novels to video games and everything in between."

What I aim to do with this project is provide a place to publish writing aimed at a broad audience that takes a scholarly (or semi-scholarly) stance on one or more aesthetic/cultural objects, giving those writings some editorial guidance and a home beyond individual blogs, facebook posts, twitter, etc. I'm quite open to the kind of work people might want to do, working from previously-written or new material. While the site doesn't exclusively focus on comics studies, I'd like to grow that category this year.

A few examples of pieces that might be of interest to comics folks:

  * Kelly Williams, on The Dark Phoenix Saga<https://www.vaultofculture.com/vault/feature/williams/darkphoenix>
  * A recent piece<https://www.vaultofculture.com/vault/oncomics/smythskinoffate> on Canadian comics artist, Fiona Smyth, focusing on her two-part "Skin of Fate" story (the first piece in a recurring On Comics<https://www.vaultofculture.com/oncomics> series)
  * My occasional visual essay series Tower-ing Fiction<https://www.vaultofculture.com/towering>, on fictional skyscrapers in film: the Triskelion<https://www.vaultofculture.com/vault/towering/triskelion> in the MCU, LexCorp Tower and Wayne Financial<https://www.vaultofculture.com/vault/towering/lexcorpwayne> in the DCEU, and The Seven/Vought Tower<https://www.vaultofculture.com/vault/towering/seventower> in the recent Amazon adaptation of The Boys

Feel free to take a look at the site, and poke around. Or, like the facebook page<https://www.facebook.com/vaultofculture/> to see new entries as they go up, or follow along on twitter, @vaultofculture<https://twitter.com/vaultofculture>.

If you are at all interested in participating, you can see ways to get started on the "about" page<https://www.vaultofculture.com/about>, including inquiring about one-off pieces or recurring series. Or, reply here and let me know what you're thinking of working on.

In addition, feel free to prompt those far and wide that might be interested in such a thing-while the site currently features writers in my immediate scholarly circles, I would love this project to include a wide range of voices and approaches.

Thanks for your time, and best of luck with the end of the summer.
