GRANTS & AWARDS


  *   On behalf of the Ohio Water Resources Center, Zuzana Bohrerova received an $8,000,000 award from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) to continue coordinating the Ohio Wastewater Monitoring Network for one more year (July 1st , 2021- June 30th, 2022). The Ohio Wastewater Monitoring Network is being used by state and local officials to provide an early warning of COVID-19 case trends, to understand the extent of disease in communities and on college campuses, and to conduct genomic sequencing of wastewater to monitor the presence of variants of interest and concern in communities.


PUBLICATIONS AND CONFERENCE PAPERS


  *   Rongjun Qin had two papers accepted at ICCV 2021. Vis2Mesh: Efficient Reconstruction from Unstructured Point Clouds of Large Scenes with Learned Virtual View Visibility (CEGE grad Shuang Song as first author, Rongjun Qin as senior author) and Sat2Vid: Street-view Panoramic Video Synthesis from a Single Satellite Image (Rongjun Qin as collaborative author) were both accepted into the premier international computer vision event.

  *   Tarunjit Butalia, Chin-Min (Jason) Cheng, and Graduate Research Associate Mehedy Amin co-authored the article, Sustainable Use of FGD Structural Fills in Mine Reclamation: Geotechnical Properties and Environmental Response. The piece was the featured article in the latest issue of the American Coal Ash Association's quarterly publication, ASH at Work.
  *   Daniel Pradel served as editor of Edenville and Sanford Dam Failures: Field Reconnaissance Report. The report, which was authored by members of ASCE's Embankments, Slopes and Dams committee, presented the results of on-ground and aerial assessments that took place in the weeks following the failures in May, 2020.





POLICY BRIEFS



  *   Abdollah Shafieezadeh testified before the US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs on July 20, 2021. Discussing the topic. "21st Century Communities: Climate Change, Resilience, and Reinsurance", Abdollah argued that the country's infrastructure systems are in critical condition and that risks from climate change must be dealt with through a strategic plan with sustained funding. PRESENTATION AND FORUMS


  *   Several CEGE and ESGP students recently presented at the 2021 Ohio American Water Works Association Fresh Ideas Competition in Cincinnati. Vinny Anderson and Yijing Liu were invited speakers in the Technical Session category while Josh Fuchs, Yuzhou Huang, Daniel Ma, and Bri O'Neil-Hankle presented during the event's poster session. Congratulations!
